5 Expert Marketing Tips To Attract Millennials

The time in which one was born is somewhat influential in the making of their personality. The generation gaps are now more defined by the fast advances in technology.  Millennials are usually assumed to have a sense of entitlement. They have the world at their fingertips with smartphones, Wi-Fi, and the doting of their baby boomer parents. Hence, one has to market to such individuals accordingly.

Below are a few marketing tips for this particular generation:

1. Focus on texts and subject lines

Millennials, who are mostly eighteen to thirty-five, prefer the text method of communication. The shorter the version, the more likely they are to read a memo or any sort of message. After the SMS formats or a short WhatsApp message, Millennials are most likely to read an e-mail. However, this is only if they like the subject line. In fact, they may only read the subject line and respond based on that.

2. Cut down on phone calls

Videos may be a good marketing strategy, but phone calls are a big no-no. Even if they are automated, Millennials are most likely to ignore the call or cut it off.

The days when a telemarketer would call up numbers from a list are over when one is dealing with Millennials. This particular group actually regards phone calls as an invasion of privacy. Most of them can relate to someone panicking if they receive an actual phone call even from a friend.

3. Connection with traditionalists

A strange but true fact is that Millennials are most likely to connect with the group born before generation X. this means that a youngish person is more responsive towards an elderly male or female. The least connection is between Generation X and Millennials. Hence, in order to get the most out of a spokesperson or salesperson for Millennials, one needs to hire either a Millennial or a traditionalist.

4. Show, don’t tell!

If your marketing strategy or product requires telling a story, don’t say it in a block of text. A whole lot of information is conveyed much more effectively to Millennials if it is presented in a video, infographic, or pictures. The more interesting the video; with music, colors, and memorable characters, the more effective it would be.

Since Millennials sense a connection with traditionalists, an effective strategy would be to include such individuals in strategic planning.

5. Provide a ‘safe’ platform for communication

Since Millennials has problems with face-to-face and even phonetic conversation, a call to action in a Facebook video, for example, should never have a phone number. Simply put, Millennials need options where they can hide behind a screen.

However, Millennials are open to meeting in real life if they feel comfortable and motivated enough. Social groups on Facebook are now making quite a wave, with people trusting each other enough to arrange a huge get together in reality.

Wrapping up…

The key to marketing is understanding your consumer base. Some may find it a pain to cater to Millennials in terms of marketing and other areas, but such is the need of the day. This generation does have a lot of buying power when all is said and done.

Additionally, each generation operates and communicates differently. The sooner a marketer understands this and strives to make decisions based on proper information, the better.

Once one gets the hang of marketing for Millennials, it’s really not so difficult. The setup for Generation X might be difficult to change from, but every company is going into online marketing anyway. Hence, one can focus on online and content marketing for Millennials and the older marketing methods for Generation X.
